Foundation Welcomes Six New Board Members 

 

Heading into the final phase of IGNITE: The Campaign for UCF, the UCF Foundation Board of Directors has elected six new members to serve four-year terms. The new directors were unanimously elected by the full board and approved by the UCF Board of Trustees.

Selected for their community leadership and professional expertise, the new members will guide the foundation by supporting the IGNITE campaign and other fundraising efforts, acting as financial and investment advisors, managing the foundation’s real estate, and governing the business affairs of the foundation.

The additions to the UCF Foundation Board of Directors are:

Sara Wellens Bernard ’00 is a partner at Nelson Mullins in Orlando, where she serves as counsel for developers, builders, institutional lenders, and public and private entities. She has extensive experience in negotiations, development, operations, and management for all types of real estate. Bernard is the immediate past president of the UCF Alumni Board and has also served on the board of the Brain Foundation of Florida. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UCF and her law degree from the University of Miami.

Clarence H. “Buck” Brown III, M.D., was the founding medical director of MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando and later served as its president and CEO from 1997 to 2012. Subsequently, he served as vice president of development for oncology at the Orlando Health Foundation from 2012 to 2014 and as a member of the UCF Board of Trustees from 2013 to January 2018, chairing the board’s Advancement and Strategic Planning committees. Brown, who grew up in Orlando, trained in internal medicine and hematology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.

Clint Bullock ’95 is the CEO and general manager of the Orlando Utilities Commission, responsible for delivery of power and water to 246,000 customers. Bullock earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from UCF and an MBA from Rollins College. He previously served on the UCF Alumni Board and the board of the Ronald McDonald House of Central Florida. A devoted Knight, he has been a football and basketball season ticket holder since 2006.

Brian Butler is a lifelong resident of Central Florida with a strong and varied business background in sales, marketing and operations. He currently serves as president and CEO of JCB Construction, Inc., a company specializing in total site development and construction management. Brian has a long and distinguished record of public service including with the African American Chamber of Commerce, Central Florida Foundation, City of Orlando Mayor’s Parramore Task Force, American Cancer Society, Orange County Charter Review Board and Valencia College Foundation.

Cathy McCaw-Engelman worked much of her life in home health care management, prescription management and medical translation and, for more than a decade, owned Optimal Translation and Transportation Services, providing translation and transportation to clients nationwide. Since retiring in 2011, she has remained involved in the wellbeing of others through philanthropy. She is a member of the Orlando Museum of Art’s Council of 101 and, in 2017, established the Catherine McCaw-Engelman and Family Cancer Research Collaborative Fund in honor of her sister who lost a battle with cancer earlier that year.

Chris Tomasso ’93, a 20-year veteran of the restaurant industry, is president and CEO of First Watch Restaurants. An expert in innovative branding, marketing and public relations, he has held leadership positions with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc., and Hard Rock Café International. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a specialty in advertising and public relations from UCF. Tomasso serves on the marketing advisory board for Share Our Strength’s Dine Out for No Kid Hungry campaign and is a director for the National Restaurant Association’s Marketing Executive Group. He has also served on the UCF Alumni Board.
